- The media reported on the green coloring of the water in the Grand Canal by eco-activists.
Activists of the environmental movement Extinction Rebellion held a rally in Venice, pouring a coloring agent into the Grand Canal, as a result of which the water turned a bright green color. This was reported on November 22 by the ANSA news agency, citing a statement by the Governor of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia.
"Another act that harms our city. Dye was thrown into the Grand Canal, turning its waters green. Another attack on the heart of our heritage. I strongly condemn this latest attack: vandalism does not protect the environment," the agency quoted the governor as saying.
Swedish eco-activist Greta Thunberg took part in the protest. On the Rialto Bridge, she and other activists poured paint into the canal in an attempt to draw attention to environmental issues.
Luca Zaia stressed that such actions do not contribute to the protection of the environment, but on the contrary, harm it and damage the city, forcing additional water purification work.
The police have already identified several protesters and seized musical instruments and banners from them.
The BBC TV channel reported on November 15 that the Cherwell River in Oxfordshire has turned into a multi-ton landfill of household waste, which poses a threat to the environment and public health. According to media reports, the garbage pile weighs several tons and has begun to heat up, which can cause a large fire.
