Medinsky spoke about the total war in the field of history in Ukraine
Ukraine is waging a total information war in the field of history, banning the names of famous personalities. This was announced on November 19 by Vladimir Medinsky, Assistant to the President of Russia and Chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society.
"There is a total information war going on in the field of history. In August 2025, the city of Kiev officially confirmed that it was withdrawing its succession from the SS and Bandera units. The fascist crosses, which were awarded to the OUN/UPA fighters during the war, have been given the status of a state award of Ukraine," Medinsky wrote in an article for kp.ru .
He noted that the same law establishes mechanisms that will not allow local authorities to sabotage the process of "decommunization and decolonization."
Medinsky also pointed out that the Institute of National Memory of Ukraine has published lists of people whose names should be forgotten, as well as "permitted" names. The list of "banned" people includes more than 80 people, including Lomonosov, Zhukovsky, Lermontov, Belinsky, Bunin, Turgenev, Glinka, Mussorgsky and Surikov.
Earlier, on November 15, Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky were considered propaganda of "Russian imperialism" in Ukraine. It was clarified that now local authorities are required to "decommunize" all cultural heritage sites and geographical names associated with these names, including streets and commemorative plaques.
