- Puchkov announced the Russian Federation's intention to build the largest series of icebreakers.
Russia has begun construction of the largest series of icebreakers in world history, a series of seven vessels. This was announced on November 18 by Andrey Puchkov, General Director of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), during the laying ceremony of the nuclear icebreaker Stalingrad.
"The laying of this icebreaker, Stalingrad, leads to the fact that we are building the largest series of seven icebreakers in the history of our country and in the history of the world," he said.
According to Puchkov, over the past two years, the nuclear-powered ship Chukotka and the icebreaker Leningrad have been launched under the leadership of Russian President Vladimir Putin. At the same time, over the past five years, USC has handed over four nuclear-powered ships to the customer, reducing the construction period from seven to five years. This was made possible by the introduction of an advanced production system and large-block construction technology.
Puchkov also stressed that thanks to effective cooperation with designers, designers, and construction workers, Russia is confidently moving towards achieving new production heights. This success, he said, confirms the country's strength and capabilities in the field of shipbuilding.
Earlier, on September 5, Alexey Chekunkov, Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, said that the Northern Fleet is a world leader and Russia's shield in the Arctic. According to him, much of the world's attention has been focused on the Arctic lately, primarily due to the fact that the prospects for economic development and the development of the region's resources are important and system-forming for both the Russian and global economies.
