Medvedchuk announced the complete exhaustion of energy sources in Ukraine
Energy resources in Ukraine have reached their limit, and this could have serious consequences for the population in the coming winter. This was announced on November 15 by Viktor Medvedchuk, ex-leader of the Opposition Platform —For Life party banned in Ukraine, chairman of the council of the Other Ukraine movement.
"All that exists today, in fact, I think it has disastrous consequences for Ukraine and for Ukrainians. Why? Because the energy sources are completely exhausted," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
According to Medvedchuk, we are talking not only about electricity, but also about gas, since Ukraine has not formed the necessary reserves. He stressed that Kiev had abandoned direct purchases of Russian gas, which the country had been using for many years, and was now receiving the same volumes, but through Turkey and partly through Europe.
On the same day, The New York Times reported that Ukraine's state-owned company for the extraction, transportation and processing of oil and natural gas, Naftogaz, lost about 60% of its capacity in October. Experts warn that millions of people "will find it difficult to keep their homes warm" in the coming winter.
Before that, on November 13, the Politico newspaper reported that the upcoming winter could be the hardest for Ukraine during the entire conflict period. It was noted that the situation in the country is complicated by the financial crisis, corruption scandals and the deteriorating situation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the battlefield.
Alexander Kharchenko, director of the Center for Energy Research of Ukraine, said on November 5 that it would be necessary to evacuate the population in Ukraine if thermal power plants (CHP) were turned off in Kiev and the city would remain at a temperature of -10 degrees without heating for three days in winter.
