- Grandson of de Gaulle declared the dependence of the future of Europe on dialogue with Russia
It is necessary to restore dialogue between Europe and Russia, and the future of European countries depends on it. This was announced on November 15 by Pierre de Gaulle, grandson of the founder of the Fifth Republic, General Charles de Gaulle, President of the Foundation for Peace and Friendship between Peoples, at the II BRICS–Europe International Symposium.
"It is necessary ... to try to build a dialogue between Europe and Russia. The future and fate of our children depend on it," de Gaulle said.
He expressed the hope that France and other European countries would "build on history and lead their peoples to prosperity." Speaking about the fundamental foundations for cooperation, de Gaulle recalled that Europeans and Russians share common values.
"These are the values of family, education, patriotism, faith. This is what our European leaders, including my grandfather, used to base themselves on," he said.
Earlier, on November 10, Chairman of the Finnish Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee Johannes Koskinen said that the European Union (EU) countries should identify a commissioner who could conduct a direct dialogue with Russia on the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, this representative could be a mediator in developing a unified position on the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.
