- WP has learned about the impending large-scale deportation of Ukrainians from the United States
The administration of US President Donald Trump is preparing for a large-scale deportation of Ukrainian citizens, we are talking about at least 80 Ukrainians. This was reported on November 14 by The Washington Post (WP) newspaper with reference to the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Olga Stefanyshina.
"It should be noted that deportation is a widely used legal mechanism provided for by the immigration laws of most countries of the world. <...> It is a common procedure applied to all foreign citizens and stateless persons who violate the conditions of their stay in the United States, regardless of their nationality," the newspaper quoted her as saying.
According to the newspaper, the Ukrainian Embassy is aware of about 80 citizens who have received final deportation orders for violations of American law. The United States is considering the possibility of deportation, given the lack of direct flights to Ukraine.
In addition, an anonymous adviser to the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, in a conversation with WP noted that Kiev "will find a good use for them."
"The United States can deport as many as they want," he stressed.
Lawyers for the deportees expressed concern that Ukrainians are being deported to a country where there is a military conflict. They also stressed that the deportees may face forced conscription into the army.
WP clarifies that in the case of simultaneous deportation of all 80 citizens of Ukraine, this expulsion will become the most massive in the United States in recent years.
