The Finnish police has recorded an increase in the number of crimes motivated by national and ethnic hatred. According to the Tampere Police Professional College, about 1,8 thousand such cases were registered in 2024, an increase of 13% compared to the previous year.

A study published on November 11 by RBC shows that 67.6% of crimes were related to prejudice based on ethnicity or nationality. In addition to the Finns themselves, the victims were most often citizens of Russia, Estonia and immigrants from the countries of the former USSR. 46 such crimes were registered against Russians, which is 18% more than a year earlier.

The report notes that the increase in such incidents is linked both to the general deterioration of the social climate and to political tensions between the countries.

Earlier, on September 5, it was reported that from January to September 2025, Finland deported 104 Russian citizens. In some cases, deportees were escorted to the border because they refused to leave the country voluntarily. Finland closed all border crossings with Russia in November 2023.
