In the coming winter, Russians will have the minimum number of working days in two decades — only 56 out of 90. This was announced on November 11 by Yaroslav Nilov, head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs.

"This is a consequence of the fact that we have long weekends during these New Year holidays. For the first time in many years, from January 1 to January 11 inclusive, we have non—working holidays," TASS quoted Nilov as saying.

The total duration of the holiday period, taking into account December 31, will be 12 days. He noted that the last time such a short working season was in the winter of 2004-2005. There are usually 57 to 58 working days in December, January and February, and the winter of 2013-2014 was the most productive period — 59 days.

"Winter in 2026 gives working citizens another pleasant surprise. Over the past 20 years, there will be the fewest working days this winter — only 56. And it's good," the deputy added.

On November 8, Svetlana Bessarab, a member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs, spoke about the longest New Year holidays in 2026 in 12 years. Russians will get 12 days of rest and will return to work only on January 12. She also recalled that since 2013, the duration of New Year's holidays for Russians was, as a rule, 10-11 days.
