- The expert listed the risks of purchasing exhibition samples of furniture and appliances
The purchase of exhibition samples of furniture, plumbing and other interior items can lead to problems due to their wear and improper storage conditions. This was announced on November 9 by Fyodor Vasiliev, a construction expert, founder and CEO of GLAVSNAB.
According to him, such goods are often subjected to mechanical stress during demonstrations and lose their original operational properties. Buyers and sellers regularly open, move, or turn on exhibits, which leads to damage to parts, loosening of fasteners, and defects.
The expert added that storage conditions at exhibition sites are often far from ideal: the equipment can be affected by dust, moisture and temperature fluctuations.
"Exhibition samples are a story about risk, not profit. <...> Every day they touch, open, close, turn on and off. Microcracks appear on the facades, the hinges lose their rigidity, the guides become loose, and the closers no longer work so smoothly. <...> Demonstration drills and punchers were launched dozens of times, often at idle, which spoils the cartridge and gearbox," Vasiliev said in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».
He advised that when buying exhibition samples, carefully check the condition of the product, specify its service life and seek documentary confirmation of the warranty from the seller. According to the expert, according to the law, the buyer can demand goods of proper quality if their defects were not specified in the contract. However, in practice, as Vasiliev emphasized, it is extremely difficult to prove this, especially after installing furniture, laying tiles or installing built—in appliances. The specialist added that in this case, disassembly and re-installation are expensive, and all the expected savings lose their meaning.
Oleg Dubrovin, head of the Dyatkovo Design Training department, told Izvestia on September 2 about the care of furniture items, which will preserve their appearance for many years to come. He clarified that it is recommended to wipe varnished surfaces once a day with a dry microfiber cloth, and once a week with a slightly damp cloth or soaked in a special pH—neutral product. In addition, the expert added that it is recommended to vacuum the fabric upholstery twice a week, but only with a soft brush attachment and strictly in the direction of the pile.
