In Australia, a young man ate a slug and fell into a coma for 420 days

Australian resident Sam Ballard died at the age of 28 after years of health problems caused by eating a slug. This was reported on November 6 by the Mirror newspaper.

The incident occurred in 2010, when a 19-year-old boy swallowed a clam during a party in a dispute with friends.

As doctors have established, the slug was infected with a rat lung worm— a dangerous parasite. After infection, Ballard developed parasitic meningoencephalitis, which led to a 420-day coma. After coming out of his coma, the young man remained paralyzed from the neck down, suffered from seizures and required constant medical care.

Ballard's health condition remained difficult over the following years. It is noted that he died in 2018.

The man received two years of probation and three more years of probation.

On October 4, it was reported that in India, in the state of Rajasthan, a doctor drank cough syrup that killed two children to prove his safety, as a result of which he ended up in intensive care.
