American figure skater Ilya Malinin on Sunday, November 2, won the free skate at the Canadian Grand Prix and set a new world record.

It is specified that the figure skater scored 228.97 points in the free skate. According to the results of the short and free programs, he scored 333.81 points.

It is noted that the previous record set at the 2024 World Cup also belonged to Malinin. Then the skater scored 227.79 points.

In 2025, Malinin became a two—time world champion, and in 2023, the bronze medalist of the world championship. In addition, he became the first figure skater in history to perform the quadruple axel at international competitions, which is the most difficult and "expensive" jump according to the rating system of the International Skating Union (ISU).

Japanese figure skater Ami Nakai became the winner of the French Grand Prix of Figure Skating on October 18. It is noted that the athlete scored 227.08 points in the sum of the short and free programs. Such a high score was achieved thanks to the triple axel jump, which is mastered by few figure skaters, as well as the purity of the rental.
