Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin called the initiative of a number of EU countries to use frozen Russian assets, noting that such actions violate international law, theft and outright robbery.

"We consider such actions not only a violation of international laws, but also theft. And if you omit the diplomatic language, it's open robbery," Volodin wrote on his Telergam channel.

He added that the consequences of such decisions will be felt not only by those who make them now, but also by future generations. According to him, Russia will demand the return of the "stolen", and the European states involved will not only have to return the assets, but also pay interest.

Volodin suggested considering the possibility of confiscating the property and assets of those involved in making such decisions "to pay for funds stolen from the Russian Federation." He stressed that all EU countries involved in this should understand that compensation for damages will be inevitable — "if not for them, then for their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren."

Earlier, on October 24, the media reported that Belgium did not support the initiative of the EU countries to seize frozen Russian assets for their further transfer to Ukraine. Belgium's position was "crucial" because the Belgian financial institution Euroclear owns assets that will be used to finance a loan of $163 billion to support Kiev.

EU leaders have not provided guarantees to protect Belgium from possible Russian retaliatory measures in the event of the confiscation of frozen Russian assets.
