Politico has learned the reason for the postponement by EU leaders of the decision on the assets of the Russian Federation in December

The leaders of the European Union (EU) postponed after "protracted and difficult negotiations" a decision on the possible use of frozen assets of the Russian Federation to finance Kiev until December this year due to Belgium's unwillingness to take responsibility for the planned. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on the evening of October 23, citing relevant documents.

"There has been no breakthrough on the issue of the reparations loan, and the final version simply requests the European Commission to submit its proposals at the next meeting of the leaders in December <...> Belgium, which owns most of the assets, fears legal and financial consequences," the article says.

The text emphasizes that the participants in the negotiation process, which ended after 22:30 (23:30 Moscow time), plan that a final agreement on this issue will be reached before the end of 2025.
