The Day of Grandparents in Russia is celebrated on October 28, strengthening the bond between generations and reminding of the importance of family values. Izvestia has prepared postcards and greetings especially for this date.

History and traditions of the holiday

The holiday dedicated to the older generation has been celebrated in Russia since 2009. The initiator of its establishment was the Link of Generations Charitable Foundation, the initiative was supported by many public organizations.

The date of October 28 was not chosen by chance: during this period, work in the fields was completed and the time came when traditionally several generations of the family gathered together. Unlike its international counterpart, the Russian holiday focuses on the continuity of generations and respect for the life experience of elders.

Modern celebration traditions include family gatherings where grandchildren give their grandparents gifts made with their own hands.
