The Supreme Court confirmed the legality of fines from two cameras in a row
On October 22, the Supreme Court of Russia confirmed the legality of imposing repeated fines for speeding, even if the cameras are located only a few hundred meters from each other.
It is specified that the dispute arose at the initiative of a transport company from Voronezh, which tried to challenge two decisions on fines received by its bus with a difference of only 22 seconds for a similar violation of the speed limit. The court concluded that each offense is independent, which justifies the imposition of two fines in such a situation.
"The frequency of installation of road complexes is fixed in government Decree No. 754 of 2024. The distance between stationary speed cameras should be at least 1 km in a populated area and 5 km outside the city," the Supreme Court told the Kommersant newspaper.
Such decisions can become a guideline for lower courts. So, in 2021, after a single decision of the Supreme Court, the traffic police stopped the practice of fixing the average speed and imposing fines for it.
