Zakharova again urged not to participate in the information farce
On October 21, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called for the second time in a day not to participate in an information farce against the background of a statement by the Financial Times newspaper that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio could hold a meeting on October 30 in Budapest.
Earlier that day, commenting on CNN information that the meeting between Lavrov and Rubio had been postponed, Zakharova advised "not to participate in this information booth."
The Russian Foreign Ministry will immediately share information about the meeting between Lavrov and Rubio as soon as the data becomes available, Zakharova added.
On October 20, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed possible concrete steps in a telephone conversation to implement the understandings that were reached during the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump.
However, later, on October 21, CNN announced that the meeting between Rubio and Lavrov had been postponed. It was clarified that the reasons for the postponement of the meeting are unknown. According to the channel's source, Lavrov and Rubio have different opinions on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, answering a question about the possible postponement of the summit, said that there was an understanding between Russian President Putin and Trump, but it was impossible to postpone what had not been fixed. He added that initially no exact dates had been set.
