Karin Kneissl, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria and head of the St. Petersburg State University's G.O.R.K.L. Center, said on October 19 that the ideal outcome of the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American Leader Donald Trump in Budapest would be the signing of a bilateral agreement between Moscow and Washington.

"I think the ideal result from the Russian side would be the signing of a bilateral trade agreement, a comprehensive resumption of bilateral contacts, which has already been discussed in telephone conversations and meetings at all levels," she told TASS.

According to Kneissl, this will include the restoration of direct flights to the development of cultural and sports contacts. She also noted that the agenda of the talks, in addition to international security issues, will include bilateral relations.

The former Austrian Foreign Minister stressed that the parties have about two weeks to prepare the necessary documents for the meeting. She admitted that draft agreements may already be in the works.

The American leader announced a meeting with the Russian president in Hungary on October 16. According to him, the phone conversation with Putin was productive. After that, Trump expressed hope to hold a summit within two weeks.

In turn, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban said that the presidents of the United States and the Russian Federation will meet in Budapest, as Hungary is the only one in Europe that follows the path of peace. He also called Hungary a state where there is a real possibility that negotiations between the leaders of the states can lead to peace.
