The tunnel between Chukotka and Alaska through the Bering Strait, connecting the two countries, will be approximately twice as long as the Eurotunnel. This was reported on October 19 by RIA Novosti based on an analysis of data from open sources.
It is specified that the highway can stretch from 98 to 113 km. It is about twice as long as the tunnel that connects France with the UK, its length is about 51 km.
On October 16, Kirill Dmitriev, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, said that there was a prospect of building a tunnel between Russia and the United States. It was noted that it could connect Russia and Alaska through the Bering Strait in eight years. The construction cost will not exceed $8 billion.
Later, on October 17, US President Donald Trump, during a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, noted that the idea of creating a tunnel between Russia and Alaska was interesting. The Ukrainian leader also stated that he did not like such an initiative.
