Russian President Vladimir Putin recalled the abuse of the monopoly position of the leading Western media in the 2000s. He stated this on October 17 in his speech at an event dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the RT TV channel.

"We remember how in the early 2000s the leading Western media abused their monopoly position," TASS quoted the president as saying.

Earlier in the day, Putin, speaking at the 20th anniversary of the channel, said that he was still outraged when terrorists who took hostages and organized deadly bombings in Russian cities, schools and hospitals were called rebels on the air of well-known Western channels.
