- A deputy who spoke in support of the Russian language in Latvia was detained in Estonia.
On October 13, Alexei Roslikov, a Latvian MP from the Stability! party, who has repeatedly defended the status of the Russian language in Latvia, announced his detention while trying to enter Estonia.
"We were on our way to Estonia today to meet with our colleagues. The police stopped me on the way and told me that I was banned from visiting Estonia. Now we are going to the migration office, to the police, we will figure it out," Roslikov said in a video message posted on the Telegram channel.
He later said that he and his team were forced to leave Estonia accompanied by a police escort. The local police cited a "threat to Estonia's national security" as the reason for the ban on entry into the country.
According to Roslikov, deputies from Lithuania were also detained, as well as his party member Igor Yudin, who entered Estonia a few hours before him.
Earlier, on September 18, it was reported that the Latvian police had once again detained MP Alexei Roslikov.
The Latvian State Television and radio portal LSM reported on June 5 that the Latvian Seimas removed Roslikov from the meeting for defending the Russian language. It later became known that a criminal case had been opened against Roslikov on suspicion of assisting Russia in its alleged "actions against Latvia" and "inciting national hatred and discord." On June 16, the deputy was released on his own recognizance.
