The Earth found itself inside a stream of solar wind emanating from a coronal hole in the Sun, much earlier than expected. This was announced on October 12 by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to the laboratory's schedule, the planet is already in a plasma stream on Sunday. Experts note that the speed of the solar wind ranges from high to extremely high values. Scientists called these observations unexpected, since the forecast predicted that the Earth would fall under the influence of a coronal hole only on Monday, October 13.

According to the IKI RAS, based on current observations, warnings about the onset of magnetic storms are expected within the next 3-4 hours. In addition, auroras may be recorded in the central part of Russia in the evening.

Earlier that day, Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, reported that the Earth was exposed to a stream of high-temperature solar wind, which led to increased disturbances in the magnetosphere. He noted that at the moment, the level of magnetic disturbances has not yet reached the critical level of magnetic storms, but, according to forecasts, it is expected to intensify to a weak G1 class magnetic storm, the probability of which is about 60%.
