Svetlana Kirillova, the widow of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, chief of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Forces (RCBZ), who died in 2024, and a deputy of the Kostroma Regional Duma from the United Russia party, has been appointed senator from the region's legislature. This was announced on October 8 by Chairman of the Kostroma Regional Duma Alexei Anokhin.

"Svetlana Mikhailovna Kirillova is vested with the powers of a senator of the Russian Federation, a representative of the Kostroma Regional Duma," TASS quoted him as saying.
