Roskachestvo reported on the use of digital copies of deceased people by fraudsters
On October 2, the Roskachestvo Center for Digital Expertise warned of a new type of fraud in which attackers create digital copies of deceased people using neural network technologies.
"The technology of digital "resurrection" is based on neural network algorithms capable of creating interactive digital copies of deceased people," the center told TASS.
Initially, such developments were created for therapeutic purposes, helping people overcome loss through symbolic "communication" with the digital projection of the deceased.
According to experts, scammers use these digital copies to manipulate vulnerable people. Neurobots can convince relatives of the need to provide financial assistance, recommend the purchase of goods or services, as well as undergo biometric verification, sign electronic documents and issue microloans.
In addition, accounts of the deceased can be used for phishing mailings, the creation of botnets for DDoS attacks and the distribution of unwanted content. Experts note that verifying the authenticity of messages is impossible when it comes to digital copies of the deceased, which makes them a convenient tool for cybercriminals. Georgy Tarachev, Deputy head of the Center for Digital Expertise, stressed that the use of such technologies creates ideal conditions for fraud, playing on people's emotions and trust.
