There is a warming trend in Moscow and throughout central Russia, with temperatures expected to rise by 1-3 degrees by 2050. This was announced to TASS on September 21 by Nikolai Tereshonok, head of the Meteorology and Climate Department of the Central Directorate for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring.

"According to our calculations, in 25 years (by 2050) the possible temperature increase in Moscow and the Central Federal District will be from one to three degrees. Annual precipitation may increase by 20-40 mm in the northern regions, and decrease by 20-40 mm in the southern regions. Winter is getting warmer in Moscow and the regions," he said.

Tereshonok added that temperature fluctuations are possible in the opposite direction, but the general trend indicates its steady growth.

"Atmospheric carbon saturation is increasing, as is the greenhouse effect," the climatologist explained.

According to him, the coldest winters were recorded in 1893, 1942 and 1956, and the warmest in 2020. According to forecasts, by 2030 the average winter temperature in the capital may reach -4 degrees.

On August 24, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, Roman Vilfand, said that there would be no velvet season in Moscow this year. The expert explained that cold nights are to blame for everything: in Moscow, the temperature drops below +10 degrees, which is why water bodies cool down quickly.
