The Russian army has begun using so-called "mother drones" to defeat the targets of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) at the front. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal on September 20.

"Heavy matka—type drones fly far beyond the line of control and release smaller explosive drones, which then attack Ukrainian equipment," the publication says.

It is specified that such drones carry smaller FPV attack drones on board and act as a signal repeater. The authors of the material also note that Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have become more accurate at hitting targets.

Earlier, on September 17, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov said that units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation were advancing in almost all areas of the special military operation. He also added that the Vostok group of troops is developing an offensive in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions, while noting the role of marine units in achieving the goals of the special operation.
