The Russian Northern Fleet carried out a hypersonic missile strike on a simulated enemy in the Barents Sea as part of the Zapad-2025 strategic exercises. This was announced on September 14 by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

During the exercises, the heterogeneous forces of the Northern Fleet launched a missile strike, the purpose of which was to destroy the target. Thus, the crew of the Admiral Golovko frigate fired a Zircon hypersonic missile at a naval target.

According to the ministry, the long-range anti-submarine aircraft Tu-142, which provided real-time monitoring of the process, carried out the target designation at the target position to the command post of a group of heterogeneous strike forces. As a result, the Zircon missile hit the target with a direct hit.

It is specified that the shooting area was closed in advance to civilian shipping and aviation.

On September 12, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced the start of the Zapad-2025 exercises to counter air attacks by a simulated enemy, in which Russian and Belarusian servicemen are taking part in the Baltic Sea.

The next day, on September 13, crews of long-range Tu-22M3 bombers of the Russian Aerospace Forces launched an air strike with practical bombing, destroying objects at one of the ranges during a joint strategic exercise. It was noted that then the pilots of long-range aviation staged an episode of an airstrike on a simulated enemy.
