The State Duma announced the preparation of a bill on hospital schools
State Duma deputies, together with relevant departments, are preparing to introduce a bill on hospital schools to the House. This was announced on September 14 by the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family Protection, Tatyana Butskaya.
"Currently, so-called "hospital schools" have already been opened in many regions. However, the problem lies in the absence of a single federal regulation governing their opening and operation," RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.
According to the MP, the hospital school is designed for children who have been in the hospital for more than 21 days. Butskaya clarified that funding for such schools has already been provided, and the state guarantees free education to every child.
"The key task is to ensure not only the opening, but also the sustainable operation of such institutions. This requires a separate law, which we plan to submit to the State Duma in the near future," Butskaya said.
She added that about 6 million children are treated in Russian medical institutions every year, of which about 400,000 are in hospitals for more than 21 days. With many of the 60 diagnoses requiring long-term treatment, children remain mobile and can learn the curriculum right in the hospital.
