"Zelensky threatens Hungary and blackmails her"
In Hungary, foreign interference is being recorded in the run-up to the parliamentary elections, Dora Duro, Deputy speaker of the country's parliament, said in an interview with Izvestia. External pressure combined with the aggressive policy of the West is also affecting the country's energy security. The Nasha Rodina party called on the government to toughen measures against Vladimir Zelensky over the attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline. Against this background, economic relations between Moscow and Budapest continue to develop. About the construction of the Paks-2 NPP, as well as the need to restore dialogue with the Russian Federation and common values, in an exclusive interview with Dora Duro to Izvestia.
"The indirect damage caused by these attacks is already incalculable"
— Parliamentary elections will be held in Hungary in 2026. Do you record attempts at external interference? How do they manifest themselves?
— Recent data confirms that billions of dollars have been directed to specific Hungarian media outlets for indirect support of globalist parties. In addition, the Our Motherland movement, the only truly sovereignist party, is being subjected to unprecedented censorship on social media. The party's president, who also heads its parliamentary faction, is completely blocked on Facebook (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia), the main platform in Hungary.
In addition, we are regularly subjected to online attacks of unknown origin, but presumably with an international footprint when it comes to the issues we promote. A new party that suddenly appeared (the Tisa party. — Ed.), which openly advocates globalist goals, demonstrates an illogical and dramatic increase in social media coverage and interactions. All of this points to obvious patterns of foreign interference.
— In August, Ukraine carried out several attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline, through which Hungary receives Russian oil. As a result, his work was repeatedly suspended. What measures does Budapest intend to take to protect this supply route? Are there any estimates of economic losses from the suspension of oil supplies?
— The Our Motherland movement has called on the government to take much more decisive action against Vladimir Zelensky, who is threatening Hungary and blackmailing it. It is important that the Government, together with Slovakia, whose supply security has also been threatened by the attack on the Druzhba oil pipeline, take joint steps against Ukrainian aggression.
The indirect damage caused by these attacks is already incalculable. This immediately creates uncertainty in the markets, investments become more expensive due to fossil fuel prices in all sectors, and investors feel insecure. First of all, daily expenses are increasing: for fuel, goods, and especially for basic necessities.
"The Ukrainian regime has illegally ignored the will of the residents of Transcarpathia"
— Recently, relations between Hungary and Ukraine have sharply deteriorated due to the conflict over the rights of Transcarpathian Hungarians. Russia, as you know, insists on the need to respect the rights of national minorities in Ukraine. Are there plans to coordinate the efforts of Russia and Hungary in this area on international platforms?
— The Nasha Rodina movement puts forward clear proposals to resolve the situation, based on international law, the rights of national minorities and Ukrainian legislation. In 1991, the overwhelming majority of Transcarpathian residents voted for the region's autonomy in a referendum. The Ukrainian regime has illegally ignored the will of the Transcarpathian residents. Correcting this and achieving regional autonomy is the number one priority at the moment.
In addition, ensuring the cultural, linguistic and educational rights of the Ruthenian, Hungarian, Romanian and Russian ethnic minorities is the minimum guaranteed by international law. In this regard, cooperation with all affected States, and in the case of ethnic groups, with the organizations that represent them, is our fundamental interest.
"Economic and cultural cooperation with Russia at the strategic level is of fundamental importance"
— According to Rosatom's plans, the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant in Hungary may begin in November. Does your government intend to follow the EU roadmap for abandoning Russian energy resources (including nuclear energy) by 2028?
— The basic principle of the national energy balance is complexity. Nuclear energy plays a special role in this model, providing stable and constant energy supply. The Paksha NPP was built using Russian technology, and its development with the participation of Russian specialists and infrastructure is justified.
In general, we consider the EU's decision to abandon Russian energy resources, raw materials and technologies to be fundamentally harmful and harmful. This historical mistake cannot be repeated, and the Our Motherland movement is fighting this in every possible way.
— On September 20, 2024, the 15th meeting of the Russian-Hungarian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Budapest. How important are such ties between Moscow and Budapest?
— Economic and cultural cooperation with Russia on a strategic level is of fundamental importance for our country and for Europe. Restoring and deepening balanced partnerships at all levels is essential, and the Our Motherland movement supports all such initiatives.
— What unites Moscow and Budapest on a value level? Do you consider it necessary to contribute to the formation of a multipolar world?
— Against the background of changes in the international order, the Our Motherland movement considers it extremely important to build relations with all the centers of power in the world. In this spirit, for example, the Hungulf program actively promotes and builds economic and cultural openness with the countries of the Persian Gulf.
Restoring and deepening relations with Russia is a fundamental cultural, economic and civilizational necessity. Christian values, civilizational similarities, historical ties, mutual cultural influences and the complementarity of economies determine the desire to develop personal and institutional relationships.
We would like to highlight the demographic agenda in particular: stimulating fertility and starting families among the indigenous population, who preserve their own cultural and religious values, remains a priority in both countries, and the exchange of experience and cooperation in this area are of mutual interest at the civilizational level.
