- Iltalehti reported on the deportation of more than a hundred Russians from Finland since the beginning of the year
Finland has deported more than a hundred Russian citizens this year. This was reported on September 5 by the Iltalehti newspaper.
"From January to September 2025, 104 Russian citizens were deported from Finland," the article says.
According to the newspaper, some Russians refused to leave the country voluntarily, so the police escorted them to Turkey, from where they continued their journey at their own expense. In other cases, the deportees were taken to Narva (Estonia), where the nearest open border crossing is located.
Finland closed all border crossings with Russia in November 2023.
On July 18, the Latvian authorities demanded that Russian citizens who had not applied for permanent residence status in the European Union (EU) leave the country. It was clarified that Russians who previously had permanent residence in the republic had until June 30 to submit documents for requesting permanent EU resident status, including confirmation of passing the Latvian language exam.
