Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated students of St. Petersburg State University Leonid Danilevich, Maxim Turevsky and Fyodor Ushakov on their victory at the ICPC World Programming Championship, which was held in Baku. The congratulation was published on September 6 on the Kremlin's official website.

"In a stubborn struggle against strong rivals from the most famous universities in the world, you have demonstrated deep, fundamental knowledge, exceptional dedication and team cohesion, and won these prestigious intellectual competitions," the Russian president's telegram says.

Putin wished the team further success in their studies and new achievements. The Russian leader also expressed gratitude to the teachers, coaches and parents of the winners who helped to achieve high results.

The St. Petersburg State University team that won the World Cup returned to St. Petersburg on the morning of September 6. The participants shared that they had to solve algorithmic problems in the competition. It was clarified that teams from more than 70 countries entered the final stage of the championship. However, only four teams, including representatives of St. Petersburg State University, managed to become gold medalists.
