The Yerevan court extended the sentence of the head of the Shirak Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC), Archbishop Mikael Ajapakhyan, for another month. This was reported by Sputnik Armenia on September 2.

"Nevertheless, the court extended the arrest of Archbishop Ajapakhyan for another month, until October 6," the Telegram channel says.

They also noted that the next court hearing will be held on September 15.

On June 28, the Yerevan court arrested Archbishop Mikael Ajapakhyan for two months. Lawyer Ara Zohrabyan stated that the defense plans to appeal the court's decision.

Ajapakhyan was detained on June 27. The Investigative Committee of Armenia has opened a criminal case against him on calls to overthrow the government in the country. In turn, Armenian lawyer Varazdat Harutyunyan stated that the criminal case against the archbishop on calls to seize power is absurd from a legal point of view.

On July 24, Mikael Ajapakhyan's lawyers filed a petition asking to cancel or change the measure of restraint for their client. The legal team believes that there are no grounds for the arrest of the clergyman.
