An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 occurred in China, 319 km south-east of the city of Almaty. This was reported on September 2 in the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan.
"The depth of the [hearth] is 5 km. The earthquake's energy class is 12.3. Magnitude MPV is 5.7," the agency said in a Telegram channel message.
The earthquake occurred in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China, near the border with Kyrgyzstan. It was registered at 12:58 a.m. Kazakhstan time (10:58 a.m. Moscow time). The intensity in Almaty was 2 points on the MSK-64 scale, but there were no tremors in the city.
On September 1, an earthquake of magnitude 6.0 occurred in Afghanistan. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, five aftershocks ranging in magnitude from 4.3 to 5.2 occurred in the same area of the country.
On September 2, the Associated Press drew attention to the fact that the victims were continuing to be evacuated, and therefore the number of victims and injured could increase significantly. Also, according to the newspaper, the earthquake caused landslides in some areas.
On August 2, it became known that more than 1,400 people died as a result of the earthquake in Afghanistan, and the number of victims increased to 3,124. Also, as a result of the earthquake, more than 5.4 thousand houses were destroyed.
