Grossi announced his intention to maintain constructive relations with Iran
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said that he is committed to maintaining constructive relations with Iran. He said this in an interview with the Associated Press (AP) on August 27.
Grossi warned that the agency is not yet satisfied with Iran's cooperation with international inspectors. At the same time, European leaders are expected to reimpose sanctions on Tehran, as it has failed to reach a diplomatic solution to its nuclear program.
He also said that the IAEA inspectors had returned to the Iranian Bushehr nuclear power plant, but had not yet visited other facilities, including those that had been attacked by the United States. Grossi added that he has no plans to return to Iran in the near future, but continues to keep in touch with Iranian officials to discuss the logistics of the IAEA's access to all facilities.
On the same day, Grossi reported that the IAEA had not received any data that would indicate the transfer of materials from the nuclear facility in Isfahan in the Islamic Republic to another location after the US strikes. He also added that the agency's staff had resumed work in Iran.
On August 26, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced that the Islamic Republic and the Eurotroika countries had held another round of negotiations on the nuclear issue in Geneva. He added that Tehran continues to insist on finding a mutually beneficial diplomatic solution.
