The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) must suspend Israel from tournaments. This statement was made on August 14 by the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese.

"UEFA, it's time to kick the killers out of the competition. Let's make sport free from apartheid and genocide," she wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

Accordingly, Albanese commented on the news about the death of former Palestinian national football team player Suleiman Al-Obeid. According to the Palestinian Football Association, the athlete died in an Israeli attack on civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in the southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday, August 13.

Prior to that, on August 4, the Ynet portal reported on Israel's preparation of a plan for the complete occupation of the Gaza Strip. It was clarified that the Israeli leadership intends to switch to active combat operations throughout the enclave. At the same time, the government noted that the army's actions will be conducted even in areas where hostages are being held.

Earlier, on May 19, the head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, accused the European Eurovision Song Contest of double standards due to Israel's participation.
