Companies began to look 1.5 times more for teenagers for summer part—time jobs - in May of this year they opened 4.5 thousand vacancies, Izvestia found out. Young people are hired as couriers, laborers, waiters, counselors. At the same time, according to the proposals, young people can earn up to 70 thousand per month, depending on the region and the company. At the same time, there is a limit on the number of hours for minors, and they are often grayed out and then underpaid. How teenagers are integrated into the labor market in conditions of a shortage of personnel and whether it is profitable for them to work — in the material of Izvestia.

Summer part-time jobs for teenagers in 2025

The business has opened a hunt for teenagers who want to make money during the summer holidays. In May 2025, the number of vacancies available to applicants from the age of 14 was 4.4 thousand, which is 55% more than the same period last year, calculated for Izvestia in hh.ru . According to the recruitment platform, companies from the fields of logistics and transportation, service, sales, and retail are looking for teenagers.

The editorial staff examined the vacancies. Depending on the region and the company, you can get up to 75 thousand rubles per month of employment as an order collector, and up to 60 thousand rubles as a counselor. Formally, there are more promising salary offers — for example, for working as an animator, you can get up to 180 thousand rubles, a courier for light orders — up to 280 thousand, a waiter — up to 120 thousand.

However, most likely, young people won't actually get that kind of money. Good salaries, especially if they are above the industry average, are offered mainly to experienced professionals who have been working in a particular industry for several years, says Natalia Milchakova, a leading analyst at Freedom Finance Global. However, for a small amount of money — up to 30 thousand rubles per month — schoolchildren and college students can easily earn extra money as couriers, waiters and baristas.

Why companies have become more likely to hire minors

The key reason why there are more and more vacancies for both pensioners and minors is the shortage of staff, Natalia Milchakova emphasized. At the same time, the country has a low unemployment rate of 2.4%.

Although in such conditions, organizations pay attention to young people and attract them to work, 4.4 thousand vacancies are very few across the country. According to Rosstat data in March, 74 million people were employed in the economy. However, in the future, if the situation worsens, this resource will be used more actively.

— Companies have fewer and fewer resources to entice employees with high salaries. Therefore, they are increasingly turning to people who are willing to work for a small salary, but at the same time they have great growth potential as future more qualified specialists, Natalia Milchakova believes.

The lower salary is offset by a flexible work schedule and simply the opportunity to get your first money, added Olga Belenkaya, head of the Macroeconomic Analysis Department at Finam.

— Also, against the background of digital transformation, young people have much higher skills and speed of adaptation to digital innovations than the older generation. This is a significant advantage for many employers whose activities are related to the digital environment," believes Tatiana Podolskaya, an expert at the Presidential Academy.

What kind of job should a teenager go to in the summer of 2025

Teenagers themselves are also interested in work. According to the data hh.ru Over the past month, more than 185 thousand young people aged 14-17 have opened or updated their resumes. They are most often looking for jobs as waiters or baristas (12%), packers (9%) or couriers (7%).

Every year, the number of young people aged 14-17 who get a job in their free time is growing, the All-Russian Research Institute of Labor of the Ministry of Labor told Izvestia. So they clarified: in 2021, there were 518 thousand people, and in 2024 - 631 thousand.

However, it is important for employers to remember that the length of the working day for minors is fixed by law.:

  • Teenagers between the ages of 14 and 15 can work four hours.;
  • Five hours — between the ages of 15 and 16;
  • seven hours — between the ages of 16 and 17.

In addition, the regulation of adolescent labor has been simplified in recent years. For example, starting from September 1, organizations will be allowed to employ minors between the ages of 14 and 18 on weekends and holidays — this applies to their employment during the summer holidays, Olga Lebedinskaya, Associate Professor of Statistics at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, reminded. This will be possible only in the direction of the employment service or as part of student groups included in the federal or regional register of youth and children's associations that benefit from state support.

Despite the ambitions and desires of young people, it is important for them to be vigilant and sign a contract with the organization that employs them, Natalia Milchakova from Freedom Finance Global reminded. You should contact your relatives or even lawyers for advice.

Is it possible to open a sole proprietorship for a teenager

The employment of minors mainly takes place during the holidays, the All-Russian Research Institute of Labor told Izvestia. Part-time work allows young people to try themselves, look at the work of various organizations in practice, choose an interesting direction for themselves and get their first practical skills, they added.

Every year, young people strive to start working as early as possible, as they want to become independent from their parents — to prove their worth and confirm their self-worth, says Irina Romanova, associate professor at the Department of Personnel Management at the State University of Management (GUU).

To get their own money, the guys can choose several options — not only to get a job, but also to apply for self-employment or sole proprietorship. As Izvestia wrote earlier, teenage entrepreneurship is actively developing in Russia — their number is already over 13 thousand. However, young people should apply for sole proprietorship only if they launch some kind of business, says Tatiana Podolskaya from the Presidential Academy.

In addition, children have the option of becoming self-employed. For example, many students start tutoring after passing exams and helping other students prepare, she added.

At the same time, teenagers in pursuit of earnings sometimes begin to wonder about the expediency of getting an education, Tatiana Podolskaya drew attention. She explained: if a courier, for example, can earn up to 100,000 rubles a month, and a young university graduate starts with a lower amount, then the question logically arises about the need for admission and further study.

Nevertheless, Irina Romanova from GUU continued, early employment will allow a minor to clarify his professional preferences, decide on a profession, acquire important skills — the ability to work in a team, be responsible and disciplined, stress-resistant.
