- In Britain, 20,000 refugees from Ukraine risk losing their jobs because of visa problems
Thousands of Ukrainian refugees who arrived in the UK may lose their jobs due to difficulties amid new visa rules. This was reported by The Telegraph newspaper on January 15.
"Ukrainian refugees in the UK are losing their jobs because their visas cannot be renewed earlier than a month before they expire," the material noted.
According to the newspaper, visa uncertainty has affected about 20 thousand Ukrainian refugees.
Also the organization Opora, which runs an information portal for Ukrainians in the UK, reported that 15% of refugees were threatened by problems with the extension of permission to stay in Britain.
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term of office expired on May 20, 2024) on January 2 accused Western countries of exploiting Ukrainian refugees as cheap labor. He was outraged that unemployed Ukrainians were being demanded to be sent back to their country.
European countries have started hosting Ukrainian refugees on their territories since the beginning of Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced on February 24, 2022.
