Eid al-Adha, or Eid al-Adha, is the most important holiday in Muslim culture. The date of the holiday is floating, this year it falls on June 6. According to tradition, on this day, believers will perform a festive prayer and a rite of sacrifice. Izvestia reports on which venues in Moscow and the region the event will take place in 2025.

Eid al-Adha usually lasts for three days. In some Muslim-dominated regions, the holiday is officially a weekend, and celebrations last much longer.

In Moscow and the Moscow region, they will last until Sunday evening, June 8. However, the main celebrations will take place on Friday, June 6, at specially organized venues.

Muslims will traditionally be able to celebrate Eid al-Adha in the main mosques of the capital.:

  • Moscow Cathedral Mosque (Prospekt Mira metro station, 7 Vypolzov Lane);
  • Historical mosque (Novokuznetsk and Tretyakovskaya metro stations, 28 Bolshaya Tatarskaya Street, building 1).
  • Memorial mosque "Shuhada" on Poklonnaya Gora (2B Minskaya Street).

The Moscow government has also provided a special site on the territory of the Technical Sports Center in Pechatniki (MCD-2 Kuryanovo station, Projected Passage 4294). The beginning of the festive prayers is at 7:00.

Prayer will be performed in other mosques of the capital and the Moscow region. Believers who will be outside the city on the holiday will be able to perform festive prayers at one of more than 40 forty sites. Also in 2025, 12 places for sacrificial rituals have been prepared in the Moscow region.

In addition, as in all previous years, food will be distributed on Eid al-Adha. According to Islamic tradition, part of the meat of a sacrificial animal is distributed to the poor and needy. Many charities also organize food distribution and assistance to those in need.

You can find out more about the addresses of the holiday sites on the official websites of the Council of Muftis of Russia and the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Moscow Region (DUMM MO). It is recommended to plan a route, buy a ticket, or top up your Troika card in advance to avoid crowding on public transport.

On the eve of the celebration, believers were also reminded that it is strictly forbidden to conduct religious rituals in courtyards or playgrounds in cities.

Earlier, Izvestia reported on the main traditions and prohibitions in force on Eid al-Adha.
