The New Year's feast for Russians is the most plentiful meal, and even divided into several stages. Few people count the calorie content of dishes and attach importance to the degree and amount of alcoholic beverages. Therefore, the elated mood is sometimes replaced by a dejected state. What diagnoses worsen after the New Year's festivities and how to improve the health of those for whom the festive night is replaced by a hungover morning — in the material of Izvestia.

How many calories can I eat

There must be a balance in everything — this also applies to the New Year's feast. Denis Prokofiev, a general practitioner, cardiologist, and holder of the "Moscow Doctor" status, advises not to forget, in particular, about the ratio of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates on the festive table, as well as to monitor the number of calories. Then you can avoid problems from the gastrointestinal tract. Normally, for women, the daily calorie intake should not exceed 2,000 kcal, and for men — 2,500 kcal.

"When overeating, the increased load primarily falls on the pancreas, which is fraught with inflammatory processes on the part of this organ, namely, enzymatic insufficiency," warns Denis Prokofiev. — Such insufficiency makes itself felt by pain in the area of the left hypochondrium.

This rather intense attack is often confused with pain in the heart area. The problem is aggravated by intestinal bloating and increased gas formation.

While waiting for a plentiful table with fatty and unhealthy, let's say, food, we must definitely take enzymes, — advises Denis Prokofiev. — This is important because enzymatic insufficiency on the part of the pancreas is the most pronounced pathology after overeating. There are many different drugs of this kind in pharmacies now. It is better to take them before the feast, and if you forgot, then it's okay — you can do it after.

According to the expert, an excess of salty, spicy and canned food inevitably leads to problems with the gastric mucosa or duodenum. This is accompanied by an exacerbation of gastroesophageal reflux, peptic ulcer of the gastrointestinal tract, and exacerbation of various forms of gastritis. The doctor advises to take preventive courses of medications to eliminate the high risk of problems from the gastrointestinal tract.

Prevention of intoxication

If we are talking about heavy libation, then the body will need a detox after the holiday, since alcohol is a toxic substance, the doctor notes. Alcohol consumption increases the load on the liver and kidneys. Cleansing is carried out mainly by removing toxins from the body. The so-called detoxification therapy can also be performed at home.

— It is very important to use enterosorbents. These drugs are now available in the form of pastes that dissolve in water. Taking enterosorbents is indicated both before and after alcohol intake. Follow the instructions without exceeding the daily dose," explains Dr. Prokofiev.

The doctor also reminds about drugs that can remove intoxication and mitigate its consequences. They should be taken on the recommendation of a doctor. According to Dr. Prokofiev, taking vitamin C, succinic acid, and B vitamins helps to solve the problem on your own. These supplements can also be used both before and after the feast.

If a person has dispensed with a preventive course and has not taken enterosorbents, and the next morning feels unwell, then it is necessary first of all to remove toxins from the body. To do this, the doctor recommends using both diuretics and laxatives. They allow you to quickly remove substances that cause intoxication.

In cases where the situation is completely out of control, Denis Prokofiev advises contacting a narcologist and conducting detoxification infusion therapy. Specialists will prescribe droppers with electrolyte solutions, antioxidants, vitamins and other medications for the patient.

Does brine help with a hangover

Anastasia Lebedeva, Associate Professor of the Department of Dietetics at ROSBIOTECH University, warns that after drinking alcohol, the body suffers from dehydration, loss of electrolytes and the toxic effects of alcohol breakdown products.

— For the recovery of the body, mineral water without gas or slightly carbonated is useful — it makes up for the deficiency of fluids and salts and helps to normalize the general condition. Weak tea with lemon is also recommended — this drink gently supports metabolism and liver function. And cucumber or cabbage brine without vinegar quickly restores the water-salt balance," explains Anastasia Lebedeva.

According to the associate professor, berry fruit drinks also work well.: They contain vitamin C, promote the elimination of toxins and support kidney function. It is recommended to drink all drinks in small sips without overloading the stomach.

Anastasia Lebedeva advises to give up food and drinks, which can significantly worsen well-being during a difficult period. "Coffee and strong black tea increase dehydration, increase stress on the heart, and can increase headaches and anxiety,— Lebedeva comments. — Sweet soda irritates the gastric mucosa and provokes sudden spikes in blood sugar, and energy drinks create excessive stress on the cardiovascular and nervous systems.

Scientists do not recommend using alcohol "for correction." This does not accelerate recovery, but only prolongs intoxication and increases the load on the liver, the associate professor warns.

After libations, it is also advisable to avoid fatty, fried, spicy foods, smoked meats and fast food — such foods are difficult to digest and interfere with the recovery of the body. Light soups and broths, porridges, as well as boiled or stewed vegetables, lean fish or chicken, bananas (a source of potassium) and fermented dairy products that gently support digestion are much healthier.

Why is table No. 5 useful?

If a person overeats during the holidays, then it is temporarily worth giving up sweets, pastries, fatty sauces, alcohol and refined products, giving preference to vegetables, cereals, light proteins, fruits in moderation. The associate professor also emphasizes the importance of a drinking regime.

— Even at the festive table, it is important to remember about the combination of products. Alcohol with fatty foods dramatically increases the load on the liver and pancreas, and in combination with sweets increases intoxication and provokes blood sugar spikes. Heavy combinations of meat, French fries, and sauces make it difficult to digest, especially in the evening. It is better not to eat fruits immediately after a heavy meal to avoid bloating and discomfort," comments Anastasia Lebedeva.

In general, recovery after the holidays does not require drastic restrictions, but moderation, simple food, sufficient water and time, the expert emphasizes. All this combined allows the body to recover faster. The general practitioner also advises you to increase your fluid intake to 2-2.5 liters of clean water.

According to Denis Prokofiev, it helps to establish a normal digestive process after plentiful treats, for example, "Table No. 5" — a special therapeutic diet from the field of clinical dietetics.

— Diet No. 5 clearly outlines breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a specific diet. This table will allow you to restore the functioning of the entire gastrointestinal tract to normal. The diet includes easily digested, low—fat foods. You should eat often, but in small portions," comments Dr. Prokofiev.
