On November 15, the capital region will be under the influence of a powerful Atlantic cyclone, which will bring about a third of the usual November precipitation to Moscow and the Moscow region. According to forecasters, rain is expected to turn into heavy snowfall at night and in the morning, accompanied by ice and a decrease in temperature to subzero values. Details can be found in the Izvestia article.

Weather forecast for Moscow and the region on November 15

Almost a third of the usual November precipitation may fall in Moscow on November 15. Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading meteorologist at the Phobos weather center, told RIA Novosti about the impending bad weather. According to him, the capital region is waiting for snow, ice and a noticeable cold snap.

According to the forecaster, up to 15 mm of precipitation may accumulate in the city during the day, which is about a third of the monthly norm. The height of the snow cover, according to preliminary data, will be about 3-4 cm. Ice is expected to form on the roads with a thickness of about 7-12 mm, and the air temperature will drop to -3... -8 degrees.

Tishkovets clarified that precipitation will begin on Friday evening: at a temperature of about +6 degrees, light rain will first pass. As night falls, when a cold front passes through the capital region, the rain flows will intensify, and then turn into sleet. At about 03:00-04:00, with values of about +2 degrees, atmospheric processes will change phase, and precipitation will finally turn into snowfall.

In the second half of the night, the surface of the earth will begin to become covered with a white layer. Unstable snow cover 1-3 cm high is forecast by 09:00, and by the middle of the day its level may approach 4 cm.

During the day, the temperature will rise no higher than +2 degrees, while wind gusts will reach 11 m/s. Due to the wind, the felt temperature will be lower — about -3. In the late afternoon, precipitation will weaken and stop, clouds will begin to dissipate, and after 20:00 frosts will return to -1 degrees, which will lead to the formation of new ice.

The meteorologist also noted that on Sunday the weather will be determined by an intensifying anticyclone. It is expected to clear up at night and frosts of up to -5 degrees in Moscow and up to -8 degrees in the Moscow region. During the day, the temperature, he said, is unlikely to rise above zero.

Commenting on the change in the weather, Tishkovets stressed that the upcoming snowfalls will become a symbol of the beginning of winter processes.

Weather forecast in St. Petersburg and Leningrad region on November 15

According to forecasters, on November 15, cold and mostly dry weather is expected in the Northern Capital, with a minimum temperature of about -2 degrees at night and up to +2 degrees in the afternoon. Light snowfall is possible in the morning, and precipitation is more likely at night and in the early morning hours. Then the clouds will begin to dissipate, and mostly clear skies are forecast closer to daytime.

A similar temperature background is expected in the Leningrad region: at night the temperature will drop to 0 ... -1 degrees, during the day it will rise to +1 ... +2 degrees. At the beginning of the day, there is a possibility of fine snowfall. Nighttime temperatures can stay around 0 degrees or slightly lower, which increases the risk of ice formation on roads and sidewalks.

Recommendations for motorists on November 15th

Road control services and insurance experts note that as the temperature drops, wet asphalt reduces the coefficient of tire adhesion to the road, and areas with ice appear at the intersection of the surface, when visually wet asphalt can be deceptively safe.

With an increase in the intensity of precipitation, visibility deteriorates sharply and the braking distance increases, which significantly increases the risk of an emergency. Weather conditions directly affect the severity of the consequences of an accident.

In difficult weather conditions, it is important to take into account the unpredictability of the traffic situation in advance: even a slight deviation from the usual driving mode (sudden braking, changing lanes, sliding) can cause a chain effect on the road. Representatives of the departments remind that drivers are responsible not only for themselves, but also for other road users, so discipline and readiness for changes in the situation are necessary.

On the eve of tomorrow, it is recommended to plan trips taking into account the deterioration of road conditions: if possible, postpone departure until the weather improves, or choose a route that eliminates high-speed traffic and minimizes the risk in poorly lit areas.

Special attention should be paid to the condition of the vehicle: checking the tires, lighting system, cleaning the windows from dirt, as well as maintaining the maximum distance to the car in front.

Given that a significant load on the road network is forecast on November 15 due to weather conditions, the road services will strengthen monitoring of dangerous areas and, if necessary, introduce temporary restrictions for bulky vehicles. Drivers are strongly advised to behave with extreme caution: adapt their speed to the conditions, avoid sudden maneuvers and maintain concentration on each section.
