The Russian film "Down" by Creed became not only the best novelty of the weekend, but also the leader of the box office. The painting earned 48 million rubles. The domestic cartoon "Doctor of Dinosaurs" moved to the second line, followed by the Japanese thriller "Exit 8". And the Korean fantasy thriller "The Omniscient Reader" was able to earn only 18 million rubles, despite the high level of pre-sales. At the same time, viewers continue to ignore cinemas, whose performance is noticeably declining. Izvestia reports on the results of the film distribution last weekend.

Egor Creed's fans brought the film to the top

Attendance at Russian cinemas is falling again. According to the EAIS (Unified Federal Automatic Information System for information about movie Screenings in cinemas), only 689 thousand viewers reached the halls. In the last two months, the figures have been around 0.8 million. A similar situation was observed exactly three years ago.

Olga Zinyakova, president of the KARO cinema chain, told Izvestia that this state of affairs was due to the good weather and the prolonged holiday season.

— The weather is fine in the central part of Russia, people are trying to catch the summer by the tail, plus someone is just returning from vacation. Therefore, we are not seeing a strong influx yet. However, everything may change in the coming weekend — Luc Besson's long—awaited "Dracula" is coming out, which promises to be the first hit of the fall, Olga Zinyakova explained the situation.

You can read the interview with the performer of the role of Dracula, Caleb Landry Jones, in Izvestia. In the meantime, the Russian novelty thriller "Down" directed by Marius Vaisberg has won the lead. Despite the age limit of 18+, the film earned 47 million rubles. More than 100 thousand people came to watch Egor Creed's debut in a rare genre in Russia.

— Following the results of two releases, Egor Creed has established himself as a character who is guaranteed to attract the box office: the previous film with his participation grossed half a billion rubles. His fan base managed to bring "Down" to the top of the rating, the film will continue to work, remaining in the top ten," Olga Zinyakova commented on the success of the thriller.

The film was directed and written by Marius Vaisberg, who is familiar to viewers from the comedies "Love in the Big City" and "Granny of Easy Virtue." According to the plot, a young married couple immediately after the registry office finds themselves locked in an elevator with a dangerous psychopath. He reveals the unpleasant secrets of the newlyweds, and then punishes them with special cruelty for the deeds of the past.

The second line of the box office was taken by the Russian cartoon "Doctor of Dinosaurs". He earned 32 million, although last weekend he was the rental leader with a catch of 48 million rubles. The animated adventures of Phil, the son of a paleontologist, were watched by 87 thousand people this time. The third place is taken by the Japanese horror film Exit 8 (30 million). He showed the highest average occupancy rate in the top box office - 11 people per session.

"To Grandpa's Village" is still in the top ten

Next came the family comedy "Family Ghost" with Nikita Kologrivy. The film added almost 20 million more rubles to the piggy bank. Despite the high level of pre-sales, the Korean fantasy thriller "The Omniscient Reader" was only in fifth place in the box office and was able to earn a little more than 18 million rubles in its first weekend.

If Egor Creed's fanbase helped the film attract viewers, it didn't help the remake of the cult comedy thriller "Toxic Avenger." The film started from the eighth place of the rating and earned only 8 million rubles.

— One thing is for sure — Egor Creed's fanbase proved to be more persistent and collected than comic book and superhero fans. With the current attendance level, it was more difficult for the 18+ film to make a loud sound against competitors with a milder age limit, including the holdover with an adjacent audience, Exit 8. And it's unlikely that there will be an opportunity to take revenge powerfully — another monster will capture the attention of the public already on September 11," Zinyakova noted, referring to the film "Dracula" by Luc Besson.

The main old-timer of the box office is still in the top — "To Grandpa's Village" with Yuri Stoyanov. The film has been enjoying the audience's attention for almost three months. Last weekend, he took the ninth place in the rating, earning another 7 million rubles. The total collections of the painting reached 822 million. The plot centers on the confrontation between the grandfather of old concepts and his grandson, a 10-year-old fan of neural networks and modern technologies.

Another domestic novelty, the comedy "Sausage" starring Dmitry Nagiyev, received almost 15 million rubles in its first weekend and was ranked sixth in the box office. The seventh and tenth lines are occupied by the horror "Astral. Manor of Horror" and domestic fantasy "Tales of the Dark Forest. The Fortune Teller", who earned 12 million and almost 6 million rubles, respectively.

Next weekend, the leaders of the Russian box office will compete with a free adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula" by Luc Besson and the drama "Family Happiness" starring Evgeny Tsyganov and Yulia Snigir, directed by Ivan Tolstoy's wife Stasia. In addition, Milos Forman's cult film "Flying Over the Cuckoo's Nest" is being re-released, as well as the comedy "Run" starring Nikita Kologrivy and the psychological thriller "Tolerance" directed by Andrey Grachev.
