Request for confiscation: Magomed Gadzhiev wants to be deprived of assets in the Russian Federation
Former State Duma deputy Magomed Gadzhiev* (recognized by the Ministry of Justice as a foreign agent), who is wanted under a criminal article, remains without property in Russia. The Prosecutor General's Office filed a lawsuit for the seizure of real estate and assets totaling 2 billion rubles. About high treason, cooperation with Western intelligence services, extremist activities and Gadzhiev's flight — in the material of Izvestia.
What was taken away in exchange for what was sold
On August 20, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office filed a lawsuit with the Sovetsky District Court of Makhachkala to seize the property of Magomed Gadzhiev, an ex-deputy and now a fugitive foreign agent and sponsor of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The total value of the property exceeds 2 billion rubles, while the assets are recorded not on Gadzhiev, but on his relatives, close persons and controlled companies. We are talking about real estate and land plots in Dagestan, Moscow and the Moscow region.
It is emphasized that a corresponding lawsuit has been filed against the other three persons — if satisfied, 60-year-old Hajiyev and his accomplices, family members, will be recognized as an extremist group.
In addition, the Prosecutor General's Office demanded that the license of the organization for the extraction of sand and gravel mixtures at the Chiryurt deposit in Dagestan, Sulaknerud, be terminated, where Gadzhiev's sister, Raisat, is the founder. By the end of 2024, the company experienced a significant reduction in assets and a loss of 7.3 million rubles. It is assumed that "Sultanekrud" will also be converted into state revenue.
In addition, Hajiyev is suspected of passing classified information to Western intelligence agencies for a fee of at least $45 million, Izvestia reported, citing a source familiar with the materials of the lawsuit from the Prosecutor General's Office.
"While abroad, Hajiyev expressed his willingness to cooperate with Western intelligence agencies in exchange for granting him foreign citizenship, as he said in a video posted on the Internet and accessible to an unspecified group of people. Earlier, he received at least $45 million from US government agencies for disclosing classified information, which was revealed by the Department of State Efficiency of the US government," the document says.
To date, the bank accounts and real estate of the former foreign deputy have been arrested - according to open data, 25 objects, including parking spaces, have been arrested. The head of the joint press service of the courts of Dagestan, Zarema Mamayeva, told Izvestia about this at the end of 2024. According to her, not only his property was seized, but also his relatives — his wife, son, father-in-law, nephew and others.
From "law school" to betrayal: Who is Magomed Hajiyev?
Gadzhiev was a deputy of the State Duma from 2003 to 2021, he left the territory of Russia in 2022, and a year later he was entered into the register of foreign agents. In 2024, he was put on the criminal wanted list.
The ex-MP was born in Makhachkala in 1965. In 1996, he graduated from the local Institute of Management and Business, and in 1998 from the Faculty of Law of Dagestan State University.
After graduation, he first worked as Deputy head of the West Caspian Basin Department for the Protection, Reproduction of Fish Stocks and Regulation of Fisheries, then in the tax authorities - Deputy head of the Tax Inspectorate for Dagestan, then Deputy head of the Department of the Ministry of Taxes and Duties for Dagestan, since 2001 — Deputy head of the interregional Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Southern Federal District.
He became a deputy of the State Duma in 2003, joined the IV convocation from United Russia. He was re-elected to the Duma from the same party in 2007, 2011 and 2016. During his time in the State Duma, he was a co-author of 301 bills.
In May 2023, the Ministry of Justice added Magomed Hajiyev to the register of foreign agents. According to the ministry, the former deputy, while outside Russia, expressed his willingness to cooperate with foreign sources in order to obtain foreign citizenship, and also expressed support for the Ukrainian authorities. On this basis, United Russia expelled Hajiyev from the party for "actions discrediting the party." Then the head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, said that he considered this decision to be natural and called the ex-deputy a coward and a traitor.
"For a European passport, Hajiyev was ready to throw mud at everything that is close and dear to us — his countrymen, friends, the republic, the country and even religion," Melikov wrote. According to him, Dagestanis condemn Gadzhiev's actions and statements.
In February 2024, the Interior Ministry put the former deputy on the wanted list. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation accused Hajiyev of murdering the rector of the Makhachkala Institute of Theology and International Relations (ITimo) in 2011 Maksuda Sadikova. The case file says that in early June 2011, Gadzhiev, "against the background of previously formed personal hostile relations" with Sadikov, decided to organize his murder, hiring performers for this. According to the investigation, he attracted individuals and instructed them to find those who could kill the rector for money.
