The world's first methanol supertanker equipped with a dual fuel system has been launched in China. This was reported by the Sohu news agency on December 22.

"The Kaituo vessel has been successfully delivered to Dalian. This is the world's first ultra—large intelligent oil tanker with a methanol dual-fuel propulsion system, independently designed and built by our country," the article says.

The publication adds that the tanker, about 333 m long, will be able to carry about 2.1 million barrels of oil and will serve the Middle East–Far East routes. It is equipped with a domestic dual-fuel system using methanol, which reduces carbon dioxide emissions by up to 92% and sulfur oxides by 99% compared to conventional fuels.

It is specified that the vessel is also equipped with intelligent cargo management and engine room maintenance systems, which increases the efficiency and safety of operation. 71 patents were obtained during the design and construction process, and the delivery time of the vessel was reduced by four months.

On August 19, Bloomberg reported that refineries in China have increased purchases of Russian Urals crude. They have already purchased from 10 to 15 shipments of Urals crude oil for delivery in October and November, which exceeds their usual purchase volume.
