Spare parts output: auto parts have fallen in price in wholesale by an average of 15%
Wholesale prices for auto parts have decreased in Russia, but this has not yet affected retail. On average, the cost of components in the wholesale market decreased by 10-15%, according to the materials of the Union of Car Service Stations. Most noticeably, by 16-18%, the main consumables have fallen in price: filters, brake pads and discs, shock absorbers. Market participants attribute the dynamics to the stabilization of the yuan exchange rate and the normalization of supplies of automotive components from China. Is it worth waiting for a reduction in retail prices for car repairs in 2026 — in the Izvestia article.
How much have auto parts become cheaper
At the beginning of 2026, the wholesale cost of auto parts decreased significantly compared to the same period last year, according to a study by the Union of Car Service Stations on the dynamics of wholesale prices for nomenclature items in spare parts catalogs, which was reviewed by Izvestia. The trend was confirmed by representatives of large car dealers. The most significant reduction in price was recorded for popular consumables for maintenance (maintenance), mainly made in China, including those designed for European and Japanese cars.
On average, wholesale prices decreased by 9%, while a significant part of the categories are in the range of falling by 10-15%, the union said. Thus, brake discs fell in price by 18%, oil, air and fuel filters, as well as brake pads — by 17%, drive belts, including timing belts, by 15%, shock absorbers — by 16%.
Steering control parts (rods, rails, tips, gimbal of the steering mechanism) lost about 12% in price, mufflers and exhaust system elements — an average of 11%. The wholesale cost of suspension components (silent blocks, rubber-metal bushings, etc.) decreased by 7%, engine gaskets and oil seals — by 9%. The minimum dynamics was recorded for engine oils (-2%) and car tires (-3%).
— We received data on the actual price lists for which auto parts are bought by the wholesale market, - Ilya Plisov, a member of the board of the Union of Car Service Stations, told Izvestia. — The study used a sample of 392,427 items from spare parts catalogs. Prices in rubles for the same SKUs were compared year by year and a change in dynamics was recorded.
According to Roman Timashov, Deputy General Director for the VIP area of Avtodom Group, the main decrease in the wholesale cost of spare parts occurred for the so-called consumables — components for maintenance, as well as suspension elements, brakes, and more. At the same time, according to him, there are exceptions: the reduction in price did not affect the original body parts.
In general, wholesale and retail prices for spare parts depend on the prevalence of the car model: the higher the supply, the more affordable the cost, the Izvestia interlocutor noted. A wide range is presented for popular brands — Toyota, Kia, Volkswagen, BMW. At the same time, there is a shortage of spare parts for rare cars such as Jaguar and SsangYong, the expert said.
Wholesale prices have dropped for consumables and suspension parts, especially for mass-produced Chinese and Korean models, for which the component base is unified, Alexey Ivanov, owner of the Alliance Trucks commercial vehicle dealership network, told Izvestia. But the cost reduction is not translated into retail, because the main marginality is spent not on the purchase of components, but on the maintenance of the service, he added.
According to the Interleasing Group of Companies, despite the decrease in wholesale prices, the retail cost of spare parts even increased to 15% in January. The most expensive parts were for bygone premium segment brands, as well as those imported from the United States and European Union countries, Kirill Osipov, head of the leasing valuation group at the company, told Izvestia. The reason for this was the indexation of VAT and the complexity of logistics.
According to Roman Timashov, the main countries of import of parts to Russia are Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, China, Turkey. At the same time, most of the components are manufactured in China.
Will buyers be affected by the drop in wholesale prices for spare parts
The main reason for the decrease in the wholesale cost of auto parts is the market's shift to parts from China, Roman Timashov believes. For example, a Chinese equivalent for a common brand may cost 30-40% less than the original.
Another factor, Alexey Ivanov noted, is the stability and stability of supplies from China, which has developed over the past year. An additional advantage is the stable exchange rate of the yuan.
"In mid–February, the yuan was holding around 11.05—11.11 rubles, which makes settlements with suppliers more predictable," he said.
According to Rossko, an auto parts distributor, the reduction in wholesale prices will not last long, as it is situational in nature. Against the background of falling shipments, suppliers began to actively "dry out" warehouses, selling off inventory in order to free up working capital and reduce the financial burden, the company told Izvestia. An additional role was played by the temporary stabilization of the yuan exchange rate, which made it possible to adjust purchasing expectations and accelerate the sale of previously imported shipments, they added.
"This reduction has not actually reached the end consumer and, most likely, will not reach them anymore," said Anton Shashkov, Head of the Rossko Product Range Development Department. — The retail chain operates in conditions of falling liquidity, rising costs and the need to compensate for losses of previous periods.
According to Avtodom Group of Companies, over the past year, the average repair bill for premium brands has increased from 32 thousand to 34 thousand rubles, and for the mass segment — from 16 thousand to 19 thousand rubles.
The cost of a standard hour at service stations is growing, Alexey Ivanov noted. There is a shortage of personnel in the industry — about 150 thousand vacancies. There is a real hunt for a good mechanic or a diagnostician, salaries are raised, and this is included in the check.
— Therefore, savings on spare parts in the near future will be offset by an increase in the cost of service stations, — he believes. — It is important for the car owner to understand: if wholesale prices for parts have started to decrease, then the final price tag in the service station receipt will be formed due to work.
Most likely, the upward trend in retail prices for car repair services will last throughout 2026, Kirill Osipov noted. In addition to VAT, sellers bear the costs of logistics, warehouse maintenance, and inventory formation. This pushes retail up and can increase the average check by another 10-15%, the expert believes.
According to the Alliance of Traks, by the end of 2025, the volume of the car service market in the Russian Federation reached a record figure of 1.2 trillion rubles. In 2026, market participants expect its further growth — by another 10-15%.
