- Putin agreed to soften the admission of foreigners with their native Russian language to schools
On December 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported a proposal to simplify the procedure for enrolling children of compatriots who came from abroad in Russian schools if Russian is their native language.
"They are our citizens already, they are not migrants. We think about migrants so that everything would be fine there, but these are people who have linked their lives and the fate of their children with Russia. What kind of exams?" Putin asked, commenting on the idea.
He also noted that Russia's strength lies in diversity, including linguistic diversity.
Earlier, on November 5, Putin called culture and the Russian language a guarantee of Russia's unity. The Russian leader also proposed the creation of a government commission that would deal with interethnic relations in the country.
