Japan is increasing its military presence in the Ryukyu Archipelago, located near Taiwan, deploying missile systems and deploying additional forces to confront China. This was reported by Bloomberg on December 9.

According to the agency's material, missile batteries, radar towers and ammunition depots are being rapidly deployed on the islands. Japan is also starting to deploy F-35 fighter jets, long-range missiles, and expanding its amphibious rapid deployment brigade.

Bloomberg notes that about 1.5 thousand residents of Yonaguni Island, located 110 km from Taiwan, have asked the authorities to clarify plans for further arms buildup.

Representatives of the Japanese Ministry of Defense explained to local residents the need to deploy troops and weapons systems, including electronic warfare (EW), the agency added.

Taiwan's Foreign Minister Lin Jialong said on December 2 that the diplomatic conflict between China and Japan could last about a year. According to Bloomberg, tensions began after statements by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi about possible military involvement in the event of China's operation against Taiwan, which Beijing called "crossing a red line."

On December 4, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized Tokyo's bellicose statements and actions against Taiwan, stressing that they are provocative, destabilizing the situation in the region and contrary to Japan's constitutional principles.

The Sohu news agency reported on November 18 that Takaichi's statements about his readiness to deploy self-defense forces in the event of China's attempt to establish control over Taiwan caused a crisis in international relations. China's response was immediate: a Chinese Navy electronic reconnaissance ship was detected about 70 km from an important Japanese defense point, Kagoshima.
