Abkhazia has increased the supply of lemons to Russia by more than two times
The export of lemons from Abkhazia to Russia has more than doubled compared to last year. This was reported on November 13 in the press service of the State Customs Committee of Abkhazia.
"Since the beginning of the citrus season, which began in October, 196 tons of lemons have been exported to Russia from Abkhazia, whereas in the same period in 2024, only 85 tons were exported," the ministry said in a statement.
Growth was also noted for other types of products. Thus, the export of tangerines amounted to 4.3 thousand tons— which is 716 tons more than a year earlier. Feijoa and persimmon exports are also continuing: 1,014 tons of feijoa were shipped (127 tons more), and 176 tons of persimmons (2 tons less than in the period of 2024).
In April, Igor Balynin, an associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, said that producers from South Africa, Argentina, China and other countries could take the place of Turkish lemon suppliers in Russia. The expert stressed that there is no shortage of lemons in the country.
