Wheelbase: tire prices in the Urals jumped by almost a third
Tire service in Russia rose the most in the Urals — by 29% over the year, Izvestia found out after analyzing Rosstat data. The Siberian Federal District is also in the lead — 18.2%, the Central Federal District — 17.5% and Moscow, where the growth was 22.4%. In general, the cost of wheel change services in the Russian Federation increased by 16.6%. How much has the price of "re-fitting" the car gone up?
The work of service stations (service stations) and tire repair shops for seasonal tire replacement has increased significantly across the country. This year, compared with last year, it costs an average of 820 rubles (3,280 rubles for four wheels) in Moscow, which is 22.4% more expensive, and 631 rubles (2,524 rubles, +13.9%) in St. Petersburg, Izvestia calculated based on Rosstat data.
If you look at the statistics for the federal districts, the Ural region (Ufa) turned out to be the price leader, where the masters ask for 633 rubles per wheel for tire installation — 29.3% more than a year earlier. This is significantly ahead of the figures for Russia as a whole. For example, in the Siberian Federal District, the average cost of tire repair services increased by 18.2%, to 512 rubles per wheel, in the Central Federal District — by 17.5%, to 700 rubles, in the Volga Federal District and the North Caucasus Federal District - by 17%, to 474 and 303 rubles, respectively.
Lower growth dynamics in the Far East (Far Eastern Federal District), where installing winter tires will cost 470 rubles per wheel — 15.4% more than a year earlier, in the Southern Federal District — 426 rubles (+15%), in the Northwestern Federal District — 613 rubles (+13%).
Small workshops raise prices the most, which do not hide that they are preparing to cover the losses of the past months during the autumn influx of customers, market participants said. The big players are trying to keep prices down.
"A significant increase in the cost of car service stations is a fact that is clearly visible not only according to Rosstat data, but also in the practice of service stations," Alexey Ivanov, owner of the Alliance Trucks commercial vehicle dealership network, told Izvestia. — According to our estimates, tire service in the capital has increased in price by about 20%. Moreover, other SRT services have also increased in price. For example, over the course of the year, the price of car wreckage has risen by an average of 44% in the country, in some regions this figure is approaching 70%, and car wash — by 23%.
These services are in high demand in the fall, when motorists prepare their cars for winter. All this affects the amount of the check when visiting the service station, the market participant noted.
As told to Izvestia in the Fit Service car service network, prices will continue to rise. By the end of 2025, we can expect an increase in the cost of services by another 15% on average in the market.
Why do car service stations raise prices
"Rosstat statistics probably reflect the reaction of the car service market to the growing financial burden on businesses," Tatiana Ovchinnikova, director of the international franchise network of car service Fit Service, told Izvestia. — Starting in 2024, entrepreneurs are experiencing increasing costs for payroll and other expenses. Such expenses are a serious problem for independent car service stations with an average market profitability of 15-25%.
Someone comes to the end of the year with negative results, someone barely keeps afloat. Therefore, business owners began to sharply raise the cost of services.
It is logical that the increase in costs is included in the cost of service station operations, and the final financial burden is shifted to the end user through price increases, said Tatiana Ovchinnikova.
— For this season, we have increased tire prices by 20%, as well as for services for checking and adjusting wheel angles. Washing and child care services have increased in price by 10%. In general, we are in trend with the market," said Roman Timashov, Director of After—sales Services at Avtodom Altufevo.
According to him, the cost of a standard hour has increased by 7% for premium brands and by 16% for the mass segment compared to 2024. Bodywork services are becoming more expensive the most — by 11% year-on-year. Locksmith prices also increased, but by 7% less, the market participant added.
— The main reasons are inflation and the overall financial burden on the automotive business, — said Alexey Ivanov from Alliance Traks. — Macroeconomic factors are also at work: the rise in the cost of borrowed funds, rising utility bills, salary pressure and the high cost of staff due to the shortage of experienced staff.
According to Dmitry Danshov, the founder of the Mechanics company and a member of the Union of Car Services, the increase in prices for services is caused by an increase in costs — an increase in the cost of renting industrial premises, an increase in payments to social insurance funds from 2026, which is already included in the cost of services.
He notes that the business is preparing for additional cost increases. He has no other way to cover the losses, except to include them in the price of the most popular seasonal service.
Another factor is the structural shifts in the market. For example, in the Russian Federation, the car fleet is actively changing, a large number of Chinese SUVs with large wheel sizes are appearing, the maintenance price of which is noticeably more expensive than that of passenger cars, Sergey Tselikov, head of the Autostat agency, noted earlier.
In general, the autumn tire service is the weeks that feed the service station throughout the winter season, Roman Timashov concluded. Therefore, you should not expect a reduction in the price of this service in the near future.
