- The Ministry of Labor announced a change in the calculation of sick leave and maternity payments
The Russian Ministry of Labor and the country's Social Fund plan to change the procedure for calculating sick leave and maternity benefits for citizens who work multiple jobs. This was announced on September 16 by Lyudmila Chikmacheva, Director of the Social Insurance Development Department of the Ministry of Labor.
"Now we have all the benefits paid by the [Social] Fund. And it is logical that there should be one benefit," Chikmacheva said at the All—Russian Labor Protection Week, as quoted by RBC.
She stressed that it would be fair to make the allowance uniform in order to eliminate the injustice for working mothers who work in several jobs but receive benefits only one at a time.
Various calculation methods are also considered, for example, for each employer, if there are several of them. The initiative is under discussion.
On August 12, Alexander Larionov, a senior researcher at the INP RAS, called for an increase in maternity leave to increase the birth rate. He proposed to increase the payment to 60% of the average income at the birth of the second child and extend it for 2.5 years, and at the birth of the third child to 80% with payment within three years.
