- Striped case study: Why the urban fisherman's style has become one of the trends of 2025
The need for comfort and practicality has made fishing aesthetics one of the trends of 2025. The catalogs of foreign and Russian brands include vests, large—knit sweaters and sandals. For example, the domestic GATE31 and KRAKATAU have stylish raincoats in their collections, while Les Archives has striped longsleeves. The new Uniqlo and JW Anderson autumn-winter 2025 collection combines elements of British classics and traditional fisherman's clothing. American model and influencer Emma Chamberlain, in collaboration with Pinterest, has released a limited—edition merch - marine key rings and a bag made of recycled ocean plastic and a fishing net. About what a Fisherman Aesthetic is and how to create an image in the style of an urban fisherman, see the Izvestia article.
"Meet the cool city fisherman"
At the beginning of June, at the opening of the rooftop terrace of The Carlton hotel in the center of Moscow in one of the companies, which at that time was a columnist for Izvestia, two guests immediately appeared in identical longsleeves of the Russian brand Les Archives with white and blue stripes, referring to the style of fishermen in French Brittany, with red lettering on the chest. To be fair, there were a lot of striped images at the event, because the theme of the party was the French Riviera. Nevertheless, a few days later, the author accidentally discovered a similar top (also with a red print) in the catalog of another domestic brand, TOPTOP, and it seems that every third person in the editorial office and on the streets is already wearing a vest.

This element of the wardrobe is relevant now in the light of the trend towards Fisherman Aesthetic, which has become the focus of attention of foreign fashion journalists and brands and which Pinterest has declared one of the main ones in its annual report in 2025.
"Meet the cool city fisherman. In 2025, Generation Z and Generation X will adopt a relaxed nautical style and bring the spirit of marine life to everything, even if the ocean is nowhere to be seen. Get ready for knitted sweaters, tattoos and sardine patches," the forecast says.
In addition to large-knit sweaters, plaid shirts, fishing sandals, mesh ballet flats, matte rubber boots, vests with multiple pockets that are comfortable in everyday life, as well as waterproof jackets.

The theme was reflected in last year's Opal collection of the NOCTA brand, created in collaboration with Drake and Nike. The rapper himself showed off a bright jacket and cargo pants from the line in the photo for The Drake magazine, dedicated to fishing. In the frame, the musician is knee-deep in water and holding a fishing rod in his hands.
Recently, American model and influencer Emma Chamberlain also armed herself with a fishing rod for a limited-edition advertising campaign called Sea Salt Toffee, created in collaboration with Pinterest. In addition to coffee with sea salt, there was a merch bag made of recycled ocean plastic and a fishing net, as well as key rings with a boat and a seahorse. The images for the promo, in which Chamberlain appeared, are inspired by the fishing aesthetic. In one of them, for example, she is wearing a bright yellow raincoat. This item of clothing is also in the top. The trend for them was heard at the shows of various foreign designers (for example, Dries Van Noten, N21, Lacoste, Martine Rose) and in the collections of Russian brands (GATE31, KRAKATAU, etc.)
"This is what advanced and educated youth think about"
Urban clothing inspired by the fishermen's style is a reaction to the need for comfort and practicality, fashion experts say.
— This style has existed in Russia for a long time. It is preferred by young guys, hipsters. For example, you can often see such images on art clusters. This trend reflects the modern world. He is very fast, and these clothes are comfortable, practical, not flashy, and exclude luxury. Accordingly, these are cozy fabrics and it is eco-friendly. This is what advanced and educated youth are thinking about now — about the future, about reasonable consumption, about ecology. In big cities, this style looks even more interesting, draws attention to itself against the background of industrial, because it has something rustic, country aesthetics," fashion expert, TV and radio presenter Vladislav Lisovets told Izvestia.

This style is self-sufficient, he notes, but accessories in a fishing image are acceptable.
— It's definitely not worth introducing something from the luxury segment, because it will look strange. There may be some kind of chains. Plastic bracelets or plastic earrings will look logical with cozy fabrics. It is better to exclude brooches. You can attach badges to the shopper. There are some kind of key rings made of colored ropes on the trousers," the expert said.
Jewelry designer Georgy Rushev, who himself has been addressing the marine theme in his summer collections for the second year in a row and exploring the ability of water to change shapes, notes that accessories can become the final chord of an image.
— I would advise you to pay attention to long monoserines and thin necklaces with semiprecious stones and enamel as the most versatile items that will fit well into the image with sweaters and shirts in a cage, — says the expert. — Midi skirts, slightly skinny trousers and bermuda shorts in this aesthetic are for me an obvious hint of ankle accessories — anklets are indispensable here.

The design developments suggest that the trend will stay with us for at least another season. For example, Uniqlo and JW Anderson recently presented the autumn-winter 2025 "Elements of Land and Sea" collection, inspired by seaside landscapes and combining British classics and traditional fisherman's clothing, the description says.
