Regular political contacts at the highest level and close cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Russia and Vietnam make a significant contribution to ensuring the security of both countries. This was stated on May 22 by Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu during a meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Fan Van Zang.

"Regular political contacts at the highest level, as well as the interaction of law enforcement ministries and departments, make a significant contribution to ensuring the security of Russia and Vietnam," TASS quoted him as saying.

Shoigu expressed his appreciation for the participation of the delegations of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense in the International Security Forum. He stressed that he expects to discuss a wide range of issues on the regional agenda. According to the Secretary of the Security Council, the attention of relevant departments is required to analyze the situation in the Asia-Pacific region, the Persian Gulf, the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

Shoigu also noted the activities of the new generation of Vietnamese leaders led by President Toh Lam. He pointed out that following the results of the 14th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, large-scale tasks were set in the country to accelerate socio-economic development. According to the Secretary of the Security Council, the comprehensive development of the strategic partnership between Moscow and Hanoi is responsible for the implementation of these plans.

During the talks, Shoigu called Fan Wang a long-time friend of Russia and expressed confidence that, as Deputy Prime Minister, he would continue to strengthen bilateral ties.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, at talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chin on March 25, confirmed his intention to pay an official visit to the republic. It was transmitted on behalf of Secretary General Toh Lam and President Luong Kyong. As Putin noted, the delegation always visits Vietnam with special feelings, feeling sincere friendliness from the Vietnamese people.
